The Union: The Business Behind Getting High

Carrie Villeneuve

A volunteer pass can also ease the way into the hard-to-get-into movies, such as the documentary The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, a detailed outline of B.C.’s marijuana industry, from growers and clippers to pharmaceutical companies. Both screenings sold out early, and the hope line for the screening I went to formed early and went back to the corner. The film was entertaining, informative and impressive because of the volume of interviews and number crunching, and because of the theoretical scenarios, one of which poses the possibility of those involved in marijuana production and distribution forming, yes, a union. The first question asked during the Q &A was: Do you smoke? For the record, Brett Harvey, the director, has tried marijuana once and that’s it.
