The Real Guide to Canadian Universities

Kevin Barefoot

The Real Guide to Canadian Universities compiled by Sara Borins, and written by students, has longer entries than the older Linda Frum Guide, a more adventurous layout and information that could only come from people who know what they're talking about (with sections like "Residence Reality," "Beyond the Books" and "Top Ten Reasons for Not Making it to Class Friday Morning.") The writing quality varies, but the information is solid. The UVic entry was right on, with examples of Vic-Speak (Granolas (noun pl.): Usually used in plural form, to refer to people who wear Birkenstocks, have long hair, have probably taken environmental studies and bring their own curried vegetarian dishes from home.) My sister endorsed the SFU entry (although it overlooked the food), my friend Rick says the Western Ontario report is accurate, and Joelle says the McGill entry is right on. As far as we Geistian graduates can figure, The Real Guide to Canadian Universities seems to be a damn good place to start the search.
