Artists & Writers Colonies: Retreats, Residencies and Respites for the Creative Mind

Eve Corbel

The title of Artists & Writers Colonies: Retreats, Residencies and Respites for the Creative Mind, by Gail Hellund Bowles (Blue Heron/Orca) just about says it. This is a well-conceived, well-organized and apparently well-researched list of getaways, annotated with everything you'd want to know: where is it, how much, do I qualify, etc. It's an American book with only six Canadian listings, three of which are at Banff (is that all we have, really?), but the eligibility criteria don't specify Yanks only. And lots of these places offer scholarships and other subsidies. This is an attractive and useful book, and it has Kate Millett's phone number in it too.
