A Diary 1978–1980

Kris Rothstein

I cringe a little when I think of my old diaries. Luckily, A Diary 1978—198 by “Shauna” (Two-Star Press) let me relive all of my wacky pre-teen adventures without the embarrassment of my own stupid commentary. Shauna’s diary distills every high school experience into a compact, hilarious description of rotating boyfriends, roller skating and bitchy friends. Her naïve observations really penetrate the preoccupations of girls growing up in the 197s. And the stories are all true—nothing this perfect could be made up. One fine day, Shauna and her friends dug out her old diary, and when the giggling subsided, they decided to release it as a limited-run chapbook complete with wooden cover and sewn spine.
