Vancouver 2010 Torch relay in the DTES

The Vancouver 2010 Torch relay passed through the Geist neighborhood here on Water Street early Friday morning, the one to represent Water Street was Jacqui Cohen, local socialite and owner of Army and Navy. Many photos were taken as she was featured on the CTV news coverage but it wasn’t as exciting as when local downtown east side resident Robert Milton was able to run with the torch about 20 minutes later. I got there right after he handed it off to the next runner and he just held the extinguished flame. The DTES rallied together and high fived him, took photos with him but the fun was over when his handler had to rush him into a white Olympic van. It’s a small victory here at just blocks away from Victory Square.
