Texan Heart

THE EDITORS

While appearing at Buffalo’s Studio Arena in Michael Healey’s great Canadian play The Drawer Boy, suggestions were made for the recorded music to be played before the curtain and during the interval. Canadian artists only, of course. After my facetious suggestions of Robert Goulet and Giselle MacKenzie, the name of Stan Rogers came up. I confessed I had never heard of him.

After hearing that voice for the first time, I not only felt like the most ignorant American actor around, but he truly transplanted me to where I felt as Canadian (on stage) as the Ontario farmer I was playing. Somehow, his music bonded me to the very soul of what it is to be a man of Canada. I thank him from the bottom of my Texan heart.
