As a new writer, I humbly admit that I get the biggest kick out of even trivial literary successes. PRECIPICe accepted my first poem for publication I was honoured. This was by no means a small success, however nobody prepared me for the long and agonizing wait that comes before an acceptance letter turns into an actual book in your hands. After some months of biting my nails, I came home last week and finally found that tell-tale bulky brown envelope just inside my apartment door.
Inside was possibly the best issue of PRECIPICe yet: a double issue featuring poetry from Sheila Watson and a prose response from Daphne Marlatt. Also, pieces from Kate Braid and a whole section on DUB poetry featuring Canadian 'dubbers' Chet Singh, Clifton Joseph, and Lillian Allen. Allen's contributions also include an interview with the poet and a great piece by her called How to Become a Writer, which speaks to many of the neuroses of writers both new and established.
Many thanks to the publishers Adam Dickinson and Gregory Betts, not only for publishing my poem, but for putting so much effort into a “little literary journal” that is everything but trivial.
